OH Innovation Hub Drives Additive Manufacturing Forward While Boosting the Economy (Part 1)
Ohio is investing in a new model for economic development—one that brings innovation and opportunity to regions historically known for as hubs of industry and manufacturing. Through the state’s Innovation Hubs program, local communities are gaining support to grow high-tech industries, strengthen workforce pipelines, and build on existing strengths in research and manufacturing.
One of the most promising areas of growth within this initiative is additive manufacturing (AM), a field that is quickly becoming a cornerstone of Ohio’s industrial future. Unlike traditional manufacturing, AM allows for rapid prototyping, reduced material waste, and greater design flexibility.
For communities like Youngstown, this presents a major opportunity to lead in next-generation production technologies.
We recently sat down with Kimberly Gibson, Industrial Base Integration Director at America Makes—a public private partnership dedicated to accelerating AM adoption and supporting global U.S. manufacturing competitiveness— to learn more about the Ohio Innovation Hubs program, and how the new hub in Youngstown is set to advance AM and support economic revitalization in the region.
